I’m Terri Wilson, founder of Doing HR Differently. I work with CEOs and leadership teams to turn strategy into results—by strengthening leadership, clarifying systems, and removing the friction that prevents decisions from turning into action.
After decades in entrepreneurial ventures and executive leadership roles, I began to see the same pattern across organizations: performance expectations rising faster than the structure required to sustain them. Leaders were working hard and making decisions, but follow-through was inconsistent. The issue wasn’t motivation—it was how people, roles, and accountability were (or weren’t) aligned to support the work.
In 2018, I stepped away from a corporate executive role to explore what this work could look like outside traditional structures. While I returned to executive leadership later that year, the vision remained clear. In January 2022, Doing HR Differently officially launched.
Today, I serve as a strategic advisor and fractional executive to leaders who are ready to strengthen leadership, clarify how work gets done, and build the organizational capability required for consistent results. The work is practical, custom-built, and grounded in real-world leadership and organizational capability—not theory or one-size-fits-all solutions.
Doing HR Differently isn’t just a name—it reflects how I approach business and people: with clarity, judgment, and a bias for results.
I don’t see HR as a department. I see it as the infrastructure that enables performance—how work gets done, how leaders lead, and how businesses scale. When people are involved, there’s structure to align, accountability to strengthen, and leadership to support. That’s where results either accelerate or break down.
Too often, HR is treated as a compliance function or reactive support. But when done right, it becomes a strategic lever for growth. It shapes decision-making, strengthens leadership, improves collaboration, and creates the conditions required for sustainable performance.
I work with organizations where leadership has outpaced structure, or roles have evolved faster than accountability. Sometimes the constraint is clarity; other times it’s capability. I don’t bring a pre-packaged playbook. I assess what’s really happening and build the solution that fits.
Because strategy alone doesn’t move a business forward.
